PETER FALK as COLUMBO
I am hard pressed to think if many actors who are perfect in a role that it is impossible to imagine nayone lese playing the part. Peter Falk was a celebrated character actor and has a solid body of work, but he became a star and an icon in the role of Police Lieutenant Columbo in the 1970s. The charcter and storeis were created by Richard Levinson and William Link and each week a famous Hollywood guest star would commit a ‘perfect murder’. But without reckoning on the scruffy, seemingly bumbling detective assigned to the case. Columbo was made as as 75 - 90 minute TV Movies shown in a 3 week cycle (alternating with ‘Macmillan and Wife’ and ‘McLeod’). The name Columbo was a household name during the early to mid 1970s and the character is well known today. The shows continue to be popular, airing frequently on TV all over the world.
In a word genius.
