Starflight One

From the 1983 made for TV movie ‘Starflight One (aka Starflight - The Plane that Couldn’t Land).

This film follows the maiden flight of a brand new Hypersonic Airliner named ‘Starflight One. Disaster strikes when the aircraft collides with space debris and floats powerless in earth’s obit. The crew and passengers all have backstories that are familiar to anyone who has seen any one of the ‘Airport’ movies. The ship itself is well realised on screen by John Dykstra, with a shiny stainless steel finish made possible by Apogee’s revolutionary ‘reverse blue-screen’ process.

This ’What If’ painting imagines an ‘AMT / ERTL’ kit, in1/144 scale - the same scale as several Space Shuttle kits of the time. Space Shuttles feature several rescue attempts during the film. The kit would be 20” long.

I am not sure who designed this (Is it just me or is the shape of the wings similar to the Mig-31 Firefox - also created by Apogee Inc. - designed by Greg Jein).
