Supermarine Spitfire Mk 1a
Airfix 1/24th scale ‘Super-Kit’
This is the Airfis Spitfire Mk1 originally produced in the 1970s. This version is a re-issue from around 2010 or so. This model was built pretty much straight from the box.
It does feature an electric motor for the prop. Not the flick-start motor like in the original kit. Instead it is operated by a switch and battery within the engine area. The original kit was powered via the stand. There is no Merlin engine in my model as a result. Access to the motor is via the top cowling.
The aircraft sports the black and white underside. The markings were cannibalised from older kits and a spare decal sheet form the 1/24th scale Hawker Hurricane as the version I had was a Mk V.
The aerial mast is scratch built after the kit part was broken off and lost for the umpteenth time.
A great looking plane and a really nice model. (Although not a patch on the new Mk IX Super-Kit released in 2022)
