THE HYPERION
From the 1974 Feature Film from Walt Disney Productions ‘THE ISLAND AT THE TOP OF THE WORLD’
The film takes place at the turn of the century and the Hyperion is used in a daring journey to find a legendary lost Island thought to exist somewhere at the North Pole. The Hyperion is an original design by PETER ELLENSHAW and was created specifically for the film. In Ian Cameron’s original Book ‘THE LOST ONES’, there is no airship, and the the team travel by more conventional means such as ships and sled dogs.
Apart from the lower gondola and the sparse engineering section, the airship is depicted in the film solely through visual effects - either miniatures or matte paintings.
