MOON MOBILE

UFO was a TV series, made in 1970 and set in the then futuristic world of 1980. The premise of the show is that aliens are slowly invading the earth and a secret organisation called SHADO (Supreme Headquarters Alien Defense Organisation) is established defend against the invading UFOs, and keep the threat a secret. (The alien ships are always called ‘you-foes’. not U.F.O. s). SHADO operates a permanent Moonbase and this is equipped with the insect like Moon Mobiles, which glide across the lunar surface serving as a means of ‘ground based’ transportation and with the functionality for various utility tasks.

‘Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons’ has two episodes that take place on the moon - ‘LUNARVILLE 7’ and ‘CRATER 101’. Both episodes feature the Moon Hooper - a design that inspired the Moon Mobile.
