MiG 242

From the 1968 Gerry Anderson TV show ‘JOE 90’

In the first epsiode of teh series (Most Special Agent) we see the fictional MIG 242 fighter plane. Shane Westin of the World Intelligence Network proposes a hypothetical mission that would utilie the unique functionality of the BIGRAT. Joe Maclaine could absorb the brain pattern of teh test pilot and steal the Mig 242 and fly it to England,! .

Behind the scenes this plane design was modified from one of the models of the Angel Interceptors from Captai Scarlet. It fetures swing-wings which was anew thing in the last 1960s. I love, love, love this design. Mike Trim is an unsung hero of the Anderson series designing many of the secondary vehicles in Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet and most of the hardware in Joe 90.

Airfix did a plastic model kit of he Angel Interceptor in 1/72nd scale. Anf thsi fictitious box art shows what a kit of the MiG 242 might have This too would be white plastic and 1/72nd – just like the Angel.

Designed by Mike Trim
