Goliath - World Air Force
imaginary design for ‘Captain Scalet and the Mysterons’.
A design based on 'Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons' audio-adventure, wherein the Mysterons take over the World Air Force 'Goliath' on its maiden flight, three times around the world. And plan to crash it into the World's busiest Airport. I am unaware of any visuals for this aircraft, or indeed the story in general and listening to it over the years have often wondered what it might have looked like.
The Goliath sounds like it is meant ot be a big plane. The Angels come into close contact with it and if it were an actual episode we would likely have seen them alongside the Goliath, so it would have needed to be a large model. So imagining what might have appeared if this was an actual episode I came up with this, Captain Scarlet came up with a lot of original designs for each epsiode's guest vehicles, but was not above re-purposing and customizing existing models from time to time. So I chose to imagine they might have adapted the design from the 'Skythrust' model from Thunderbirds' 'Alias Mr Hackenbacker'.
The Scarlet aircarft were more radical / sci-fi in many ways than the 'Thunderbirds' aircraft. The wings have been reduced in width and the lower intakes have been removed. An extra wing-area has been added connecting the canards to the rear wings. The Hackenbacker device has been altered and incorportaed into the fuselage in front of the rear cargo area (maybe this would be the Goliath's bomb-bay). A large tail fin has been added. These seem like the sort of things the model team might have done. And of course a new paint job - World Air Force green and markings (I think seen in Scarlet' epsiodes). The wings and the vertical fins retain the original silver and white paint job from from the 'Atlantic Airlines' livery seen on Skythrust. Why change it? Anyway just a bit of fun.
I would be very intereted in hearing about any original designs based on the audio adventures that may have appeared in TV21 or similar publications.
