Frankenstein’s Monster - ‘The Creature’ from Frankenstein (1931) directed by James Whale.

The 1931 film of ‘Frankenstein’ directed by James Whale is an absolute classic. Boris Karloff played the ’creature’. Jack Pierce created the make up. This version of the monster is iconic, and nearly 100 years later it is still THE one that all other interpretations are compared to. Karloff played the role three times in ‘Bride of Frankenstein’ and ‘Son of Frankenstein’ bringing a level of menace, vulnerability and humanity to the role. James Whale deserves a lot of credit for the overall success of the film and along with Tod Browning’s ‘Dracula’ starring Bela Lugosi, a massively successful and unfluential kicking off an incomparable era of Horror and Monster Movies.

Audiences in 1931 were shocked and horrified and had never seen anything like it. True movie gold.
