A thriller written by Alistair MacLean set in the cold war. John Sturges (The Great Escape, The Magnificent Seven etc.) made this lavish film starring Rock Hudson and shot in 70mm Super Panavision!
The USS Tigerfish is a nuclear submarine and is the setting for almost all the film. it is incredibly well realised via elaborate sets within the ship and access to a real submarine for beautiful shots of the sub on the surface. There is excellent miniature vfx for all the underwater under the polar ice cap.
