THE AFRICAN QUEEN - From ‘The African Queen’ (1951) Directed by John Huston. Starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn

The african queen is a fantastic adventure, romance made in 1951. Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepbrun are always excelelnt in everything they are in, but they really play well off each other in this film. and they are really the only two characters in the whole film. And the boat itself - The African Queen.

This is one of the films where you can say ‘They sure don’t make ’em like that anymore’.

The production used a real boat which was built in 1912 and shipped off to Africa where it served as a river boat used for shipping supplies and missionaries along the rivers. Jjust as it does in the film. the film was shot in glorious Technicolor, mostly on location with the real boat. A miniature was built for the rapids sequence, but this too was shot on loaction in Africa. I read that the figures of Charlie and Rose were adorned with clothing made by Monks from ia nearby monetsary.
