SPECTRUM PURSUIT VEHICLE

From Gerry Anderson’s ‘Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons’

In terms of the impressive array of futuristic hardware featured in the show, the S.P.V. was the star!

A well armoured, high speed vehicle with the unusual feature that the occupants sit facing backwards and navigate via video monitor. The SPVs were hidden at various locations - discarded trailers, storage areas, disused oil tanks and the like. It was always fun to see where the SPV would be hidden in that particular episode. This ‘what if’ box top shows an SPV bursting into action from a secret location within a rundown warehouse area.

In 1/32nd scale - Airfix’s preferred scale for vehicles - the model would be about 9 inches long and maybe 3 inches wide and tall. (For comparison the best-selling Dinky toy was probably approx 1/48th scale). Maybe this would come moulded in the light blue styrene used for the WW2 Luftwaffe aircraft? Yikes!
