Q1 QUATERMASS ROCKET from the 1955 film ‘THE QUATERMASS XPERIMENT’. Directed by Val Guest.

Quatermass created by Nigel Kneale

Quatermass was a BBC TV serial, broadcast live in 1953. Created and written by NIGEL KNEALE it was thoughtful and terrifying science fiction! And it was a smash hit.

In 1955 Hammer Films made a movie of the serial, condensed into a taut 80 minute movie. The film was a smash hit and set Hammer on the road to making Horror and Fantasy films.

The ‘Q-1’ Rocket exterior is seen briefly., but is a classic rocketship. I have based this illustration on the shots of the crashed spaceship (a full scale live action prop and deftly used matte paintings) and the launching of the second ship seen at the end of the film. As far as I can tell, this second ship looks identical to the first ship so I have used that as reference to complete this illustration and embellish it with what I think could be livery.

Quatermass is quintessentially character and Airfix is the logical choice to make a model kit. This would be a very simple kit, and would be molded in the silver/swirly plastic.
