GALASPHERE from the 1963 TV Series ‘Space Patrol’ Created by Roberta Leigh

A series from 1963 - the geight of the space-race - is Space Patrol. This was created and made by Roberta Leigh who had worked with Gerry Anderson on Torchy the Battery Boy and The Adventures of Twizzle? .

There’s some attention paid to scientice authenticity; the action takes place within the solar system and the cre are put into suspended animation for the long trips.

The hero Larry Dart and his trusty crew of Slim the Venusian and Huskie the Martian - travel around in their galasphere spaceship. When in flight it is surrounded by a spherical energy field. The ship takes off and lands vertically, with the conical lower hull folding out into landing gear.

The series in in B&W and I have had to make an educated guess at the colours. Books and comic-strips of the time vary from silver/grey to copper.

I am not sure who designed the ship. The models for the series are credited to Derek Freeborn.
