‘MOTHER ONE’ from the film ‘Firefox’ directed by Clint Eastwood, based on the novel by Craig Thomas

This painting shows submarine codenamed ‘Mother One’ from the Clint Eastwood movie Firefox (1982). The stolen Mig-31 must make a rendezvous to refuel and lands on an ice flow. The shots of the submarine navigating beneath the ice cap are from ‘Ice Station Zebra’. The shots above the ice, including the conning tower breaking through was shot specially form the film.

This ‘what if box art’ is in a Monogram box as I believe Monogram inherited some Revell kits around this time. This artwork is a re-working of the ‘USS Tigerfish’ artwork.
