MONOBRAKE from ‘Thunderbirds’ (1965) created by Gerry Anderson
One of the most unusual vehicles to emerge from the Pod is the Monobrake. This compact, open top vehicle is unique in that it is not seen performing its speciality function… it has a articulated arm which we can imagine attaches to the overhead monorail. The functionality is never discussed in terms of what it is intended to do. One theory is that the arm attaches to the overhead rail, and lifts the tractor clear of the ground and then a jet motor pushes it along at speed. There is a large exhaust in the middle of the machine, but the scenario is hard to picture. In the plot Dr Godbar and his henchman Roach are able to stop the Monotrain from their hideout in the Anderbad Tunnel. This suggests the train receives its power from the track. I can imagine the Monobrake’s arm could be used as a means to similarly ‘break the circuit’ or otherwise break the power and stop, or ‘brake’ the train. This is pure speculation; all we know is that the vehicle is quite small and low - allowing a Monotrain to pass overhead safely.
A 1/32nd scale would be about 6 inches in length and would have figures of the boys and a posable ‘arm’.
