PHOENIX FIVE from the 1970 TV Series ‘Phoenix Five’ Created by John Warwick
Thsi is a largely forgotten TV show. I recall it only vaguely from Sunday morning airings in the early 1970s on London Weekend Television… a slost often occupied by repaets of Gerry Anderson TV shows.
It is an Australian TV show called 'Phoenix Five'. Made in 1970. The format was sort of like ‘Star Trek’, or ‘Fireball XL5’. I recall very little about it, but recall there was very little in the wat of space action and I feel like views of the spaceship were sparse. In researching this kit box I found out that the show was part of a trilogy of tv mini-series ‘The Interpreters’ (1966) and ‘Vega 4’ (1968) and ‘Phoenix Five’ being the third. I don’t recall ever seeing the other shows.
The series appears to be very low budget and made use of minitaures created for the initial mini=series... and possibly footage of the ships too. I found a still of the ship with the two large pods on the wingtips rotated 45 degrees suggesting these were thrusters that allowde for vertical landing.
I did this as a HELLER kit as maybe would have been enticed to take on a licensed property… especially if costs were minilmal:)
I have no idea how bifg the ship was upposed to be. or behind-the-scenes who designed it. Any information on this, or the other related series would be much apprecaited,
