DOGFIGHT DOUBLE - BTA Fighter and Drac Raider

From the science fiction film ‘ENEMY MINE’ directed by WOLFGANG PETERSEN (1985)

Enemy Mine is aa character driven science fiction adventure film made by powerhouse director Wolfgang Peterson (fresh off of ‘The Never Ending Story. later films include ‘In the Line of Fire’, ‘Outbreak’, ‘Air Force One’ and ‘Troy’.

Most of the action takes place on a deserted planet with a standout performance from Louis Gosset Jnr, and equally impressive make-up by Chris Walas. There is some brief space battle action, courtes of Industrial Light & Magic - where we glimpses of the Drac spacecraft and the fighters of the Bilateral Terran Alliance. While the Dracs are considered the enemy, they are in fact merely protecting their territory and it is the BTA (from Earth) who are the attackers.

I have called the ships ‘Drac Raiders’ as they are reminiscent of the Cylon Raider / Cylon Attack Craft’ from TVs ‘Battlestar Galactica’. Monogram dod kist of the Battlestar Galactrica ships in the 1970s. But I have always loved the ‘Dogfight Doubles’ kine from SAirfiox and this seemed like a fun one to do. the ships are comparabel in size to WW2 fighter planes s0 the Spitfire and Me 110 seems like a good comparison kit.

The BTA Fighter would be suitable if moulded in white or light grey plastic, whereas the Drac Raider could be in a light sandy brown or maybe even the pale purple colour that Airfix used for their WW1 Albatross.

I am not sure is responsible for these designs. (The original designs were junked, when Wolfgang Petersen took over from Richard Loncraine).
