DESERT TANK From ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’ directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by George Lucas

A highlight of the third Indiana Jones adventure film involves Indy and a WW1 era tank. This is another great option to imagine a matchbox AFV and diorama! This tank was based on a British WW1 Mk V111 Heavy Tank WW1, but that vehicle did not have a turret, so the film crews added one – I believe this was a prop built specifically for the film. Again another twist on reality that the Indiana jones films do so well. Incidentally the John Williams music score for this film and this sequence in particular is among his best work… but that is in itself a LONG list.   The diorama base features a stretch of desert with a sheer drop cliff wall.  Generally the two colour and 3 colours gimmick worked better for the tanks than it did for the aircraft.

This painting imagines a classic Matchbox plastic model kit box.
