CONCORDE
From the feature film ‘Airport ‘79 - The Concorde directed by David Lowell Rich
The fourth and final film in the series of ‘Airport’ films involves a Concorde airliner from the fictional Federation World Airlines. the flight travles from the USA to Russia, via Paris and the flight is plaugd with incidents. A reporter with damning information that will ruin a multi-millionaire (played by Robert Wagner of course), is on baord the Concorde and he sets about having her killed. One of the methods he uses is to fire one of his proprietary missiles at the plane. Hardly a case for Columbo. There is a team of Russian Olympic athletes, and a ‘human heart’ on baord as well. It is as laughable as it sounds… even without the benefit of ‘Airplane!’ whch parodied the three sequals so well.
Roger Ebert did a great review of the film, that reads like a grown-up explainng some of the more incredible moments to a kid. it is included is his book - ‘I hated, Hated, HATED this movie’. which is a great read!
This imaginary kit box art shows a scne that does not appear literally in the film, but captures some of the more memorable action with the Concorde narrowly avoiding a missile and being chased by an F4 drone that is used as a target.
There is a lot of footage of a real Concorde airliner in the film, looking beautiful of course. There are also some very ambitious visual effects shots using a miniature in the more fantastic moments!
As with all of the Airport movies the featured aircraft is shown to behave above and beyond what si required of it.
A regular 1/144th scale Concorde with unique decals. I have suggested that you get a 1/144th scale Phantom F4 as well…. just to entice purcahses as the film was a bit of a bomb!
Federation World Airlines is not indicated on the plane but is referred to in several scenes.
